Some Politicians in National Assembly Are Behind Killings in Benue – Governor Alia Alleges

Abuja, Nigeria – June 8, 2025
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has accused certain politicians within the National Assembly of being the “architects” of the persistent killings in Benue State.

Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja, Governor Alia expressed deep concern over the continuous violence and bloodshed in his state, alleging that some lawmakers are fueling the crisis for personal or political gains.

“It is unfortunate that while we are trying to restore peace and rebuild the lives of displaced people in Benue, some individuals — including politicians in the National Assembly — are sabotaging those efforts for their own interests,” Governor Alia stated.

While he stopped short of naming the individuals involved, Alia called on federal authorities and security agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Benue State has long suffered from violent attacks, including farmer-herder clashes, with thousands displaced and hundreds killed over the years. Governor Alia’s claims add a political twist to the already complex security situation in the region.

The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to ending the violence and resettling internally displaced persons (IDPs), urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperative with security agencies.

As of press time, no official response has been issued by the leadership of the National Assembly or specific members in reaction to the Governor’s allegations.
