Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu Appoints New Service Chiefs
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed new service chiefs as part of his administration’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and improve coordination among the armed forces.
According to presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare, the President named General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Waidi Shuaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
The new appointments mark a major leadership restructuring within the military, aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness and addressing ongoing security challenges across the country.
- General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff, will oversee the overall strategic command of Nigeria’s Armed Forces and coordinate joint operations.
- Major General Waidi Shuaibu, Chief of Army Staff, is widely respected for his leadership in counter-insurgency operations and his commitment to troop welfare.
- Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Chief of Air Staff, is expected to modernize the Air Force’s tactical and intelligence capabilities.
- Rear Admiral Idi Abbas, Chief of Naval Staff, will focus on maritime security, anti-piracy operations, and the protection of Nigeria’s coastal resources.
