Malik Basintale, born on January 7, 1993, is a prominent Ghanaian politician known for his dynamic communication skills and commitment to youth empowerment. He currently serves as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and holds the position of Deputy National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Early Life and Education
Hailing from the Northern Region of Ghana, Basintale is a member of the Dagomba ethnic group. His father worked as a pantryman at Tamale Technical University. Basintale’s educational journey began at Tamale International School, where he excelled academically, earning a nomination for the Presidential Award in 2011 after his Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). He continued his studies at Prempeh College in Kumasi from 2011 to 2014. Basintale then pursued a degree in Business Administration, majoring in Banking and Finance, at the University of Ghana. During his time there, he actively participated in student governance, including the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN), the University of Ghana Parliament House, and the Student Representative Council.
Political Career
Basintale’s political journey began with the NDC, where he quickly rose through the ranks due to his dedication and eloquence. At the age of 21, he became the youngest regional executive of the NDC in the Northern Region, serving as Deputy Communications Officer. His effective communication strategies and youth mobilization efforts significantly enhanced the party’s outreach.
In December 2022, Basintale was elected as one of the Deputy National Communications Officers of the NDC during the party’s national congress. He secured 3,388 votes, reflecting strong support from delegates.
Appointment as YEA CEO
On January 24, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama appointed Basintale as the Acting CEO of the Youth Employment Agency, following the resignation of Kofi Baah Agyepong. Basintale officially assumed office on January 27, 2025. In his acceptance speech, he emphasized his commitment to addressing youth unemployment, describing it as a national security threat. He stated, “I have one mandate to achieve, and it is delivering jobs to the unemployed youth. It is very dear to my heart.”
Personal Life and Recognition
Basintale is married to Ama Basintale and is a practicing Muslim. In August 2024, the Waala Traditional Council honored him with a chieftaincy title in recognition of his contributions to public service and as an encouragement for him to be a role model for the youth.
Known for his active presence on social media, Basintale engages with the public on various national issues. In December 2024, he publicly confirmed that he is in a relationship and requested privacy regarding his personal life.
