- Kenny Chesney was born and raised in eastern Tennessee. He spent parts of his youth in the small town of Luttrell and later in Knoxville. His parents divorced when he was quite young.
- In college at East Tennessee State University, Chesney studied advertising/marketing. While there, he played in a band, began writing songs, and performed locally. He also got a guitar from his mother, which helped him begin practicing and writing music.
