Emraan Hashmi, born Syed Emraan Anwar Hashmi on March 24, 1979, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, is a prominent Indian actor known for his work in Hindi cinema. He is the son of Anwar Hashmi, a Muslim, and Maherahh Hashmi, a Roman Catholic. Emraan is part of the illustrious Bhatt family; he is the nephew of filmmakers Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt and cousin to actress Alia Bhatt, among others .
Early Life and Education
Emraan completed his education at Sydenham College, University of Mumbai. Before venturing into acting, he worked as an assistant director on the 2002 horror film Raaz .
Acting Career
Emraan made his acting debut with Footpath in 2003. He gained significant recognition with the 2004 film Murder, which established him as a leading actor in Bollywood . Over the years, he has delivered notable performances in films such as Gangster (2006), Awarapan (2007), Jannat (2008), Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), The Dirty Picture (2011), Shanghai (2012), and Tiger 3 (2023) .
In 2019, Emraan made his digital debut with the Netflix series Bard of Blood, portraying a former spy on a rescue mission . More recently, he starred in the 2025 action thriller Ground Zero, playing a BSF officer involved in a high-stakes operation .
Personal Life
Emraan married his longtime girlfriend, Parveen Shahani, in December 2006. The couple has a son, Ayaan, born in 2010. In 2014, Ayaan was diagnosed with cancer but was declared cancer-free in 2019. Emraan chronicled this challenging period in his 2016 book, The Kiss of Life: How a Superhero and My Son Defeated Cancer .
