Usoro Offiong Akpabio is a Nigerian development strategist and public administrator, recently appointed as the Managing Director (MD) of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 8, 2025.

                                               Early Life and Education

Born on June 10, 1983, in Mbiaya Uruan, Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, Usoro hails from the Ibibio ethnic group. She attended primary and secondary schools in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from a Nigerian university, equipping her with insights into governance, public policy, and community engagement.

                                                  Career and Public Service

Usoro Akpabio’s career spans public administration, political strategy, and community development. After university, she joined a state government ministry as a policy analyst, focusing on rural infrastructure challenges and proposing practical solutions to improve road access and school facilities. Her effective work led to involvement in various task forces focusing on youth empowerment and women’s health.

She also played vital roles in political campaigns and planning committees, advising local candidates and helping them connect with grassroots communities by translating their needs into actionable campaign promises. Her work on small-scale solar power projects and vocational training centers demonstrated her belief that sustainable progress comes when communities are empowered with skills and resources.

                                                    Appointment to SSDC

On May 8, 2025, President Bola Tinubu nominated Usoro Akpabio as the Managing Director/CEO of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC). The SSDC is a newly established body aimed at driving infrastructure improvements, social services, and economic opportunities across Nigeria’s oil-rich South-South region. The commission’s headquarters is located in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
