Early Life & Education

Kate Henshaw–Nuttall was born on 19 July 1971 in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. She is the eldest of four children. Her education began at St. Mary’s Private School in Ajele, Lagos, then she attended Federal Government Girls’ College, Calabar. She did remedial studies at the University of Calabar and later pursued Medical Microbiology at the School of Medical Laboratory Science, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). Before her acting career, she worked as a medical laboratory scientist at Bauchi State General Hospital

Career Breakthrough & Filmography

Kate began her acting career with a lead role in the 1993 film When the Sun Sets, which paved the way for her rise in Nollywood. Over three decades, she has starred in over 45 (and by some accounts over 100) films, notable titles include:

• Domitilla, The Meeting, Stronger Than Pain, Roti
• The Women, Chief Daddy, 4th Republic, Blood Sisters and more

Awards & Honors

• Africa Movie Academy Award, Best Actress in a Leading Role (2008) for Stronger Than Pain

Kate is also active in speaking up on social justice issues. In June 2025 she criticized age-shaming culture, calling for respect and urging society to value aging and personal dignity. She also voiced concerns about Nigeria’s democracy and socioeconomic hardship, calling citizens to demand accountability from government leaders

Personal Life

• Married Roderick James Nuttal in 1999; they have a daughter, Gabrielle. The marriage ended in divorce in 2011
• Her cousin is Andre Blaze, a well-known media personality
